Gosaikunda is one of the most popular religious sites that resides in the Langtang region far from the city noises and busy lives. It is believed that Lord Shiva had swallowed the venom that would have destroyed the whole world which led to burning his throat. He then thrust his Trident into a mountain in search of water to relieve the burn. The water then formed Gosainkunda, the alpine freshwater lake which is now sacred for both Buddhists and Hindus. It is also the origin of the Trishuli river. It is visited mostly on the occasion of Janai Purnima and Gangadashara. The tea houses and lodges are abundantly available during these times unlike other times of the year.
